toast files need to be downloaded directly to a Mac and burnt from there at the lowest possible speed. It also turns out it’s very picky with burnt media. I bought a CD 600i and replaced the broken 300i with it. That did not show the CDs on the desktop even though the drive showed up in Drive Setup. I booted using the Disk Tools Floppy #2 from System 7.5, which has the CD extension. Also thought about installing from system 7.5.5 floppies instead, but not sure system 7 would be ok with the 73 GB drive, and not sure what the upgrade path to OS 9 looks like without booting from CD, which takes me back to the current issue.Įdit: The CD drive was definitely busted. Also planning on getting the adapter for HDI-45, while unlikely I want to rule out the G3 and PDS cards as culprits, and considering getting another CD drive as well as actual Apple made OS 9 installation media. It could be the CD drive is just busted, but at least it spins up, and is detected with the correct SCSI ID in disk tools. I currently have to use this with a PDS NuBus video card, as I don't currently have the adapter for the HDI-45 video output on the motherboard. The computer has a Sonnet Crescendo G3 card in it. However, removing the HDD does not fix the issue, still get the question mark when trying to boot from the CD. The computer did not come with a hard drive, so I installed an 80 pin SCSI 73gb HDD with a 80pin to 50 pin adapter. I can boot from the System 7 disk tools floppy and verify the CD drive and the hard drive are detected, though the system 7 Drive Setup says the HDD is "not supported", but perhaps that's just system 7 not liking the large drive. The issue occurs with or without the HDD connected. I hold down the C key, but whether I do that changes nothing. iso files I found through different resources online. The CDs I boot from have been burnt on an OS 10 mac from a few different. I could use some input on how to debug this, or get the OS installed. I recently acquired a Power Macintosh 6100/66 and have been trying to boot from Mac OS 9 installation CDs, but all I get is the floppy question mark.
